Tanzania as an Economic Powerhouse

I came by this YouTube video today while meandering through the internet. It's a good video with some good points relating to Tanzania and its vision for development. Being Tanzanian myself, I found it inspiring and actually got me back to blogging as I haven't blogged in years. She focuses on Mwalimu Nyerere, Tanzania's first president who was a great visionary and had great ideas for the future of the country.

Now, to analyze the points she made; Modesta opens the speech by envisioning Mwalimu Nyerere's perception of Tanzania's current status quo and makes the observation that human resource development ought to be the #1 priority for the country's economic development and this should be achieved through an effective educational system. Her speech focuses on the following points

  • Tanzanians should not dwell on their bleak past i.e colonialism, hardships of the socialist era etc.,but rather focus on the present and look within for answers.
  • The country's key decision makers should mandate HR development as a top agenda item be it in governmental programs, donor programs or business partnerships.
  • Tanzanians should take pride & feel secure in their identity which will lead to confidence and greater bargaining power which is crucial for development.
In the coming weeks, I'll dive further into each of the points listed above pulling from different sources and forming some backed solutions. Stay tuned...
